F&M Fabrics Could Close After 40 Years
A longtime East Bakersfield business could soon be closing its doors. F&M Fabrics, located at 2954 Niles Street, has served Bakersfield for around 40 years. Owners Marcel and Floraea Sescu say ongoing health challenges have made it increasingly difficult to continue operating the business.
There is still hope for the store to continue. The owners are actively looking for a potential buyer who would take over F&M Fabrics and continue the business under new ownership. They thanked the Bakersfield community for decades of support and said they will continue providing updates.
Vatos Tacos East Side Location Could Be Closing
Vatos Tacos Grill & Cantina’s East Side location at 2631 Fashion Plaza is facing an uncertain future. Recent posts from the business and local community indicate the East Side location is considering closing its doors.

The Kabob Guy Opens Downtown
The Kabob Guy is celebrating its grand opening Saturday, August 22, at 901 20th Street in Downtown Bakersfield, with hours from 11 AM to 10 PM.
But this isn’t the owners’ first time in the restaurant business. Before moving to Bakersfield in 2021, the family operated Hye Cuisine in Montebello for seven years. According to owner Amy, her husband competed annually in Montebello’s Taste of the Town and won Best Appetizer/Entrée six years in a row.
After moving to Bakersfield, he focused on private catering while the family worked toward opening something of their own locally. They purchased their food trailer two years ago, had it built from the ground up, and worked through the permitting and health department process to finally get it open.
The new Downtown setup will feature the food trailer along with an outdoor patio area with picnic-style seating and string lights. The family is also already planning ahead: Amy says they’re in the early stages of developing a sister restaurant that would offer a more high-end dining experience.
The Kabob Guy’s grand opening is Saturday from 11 AM to 10 PM at 901 20th Street.
